Competitive analysis helps identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities by comparing key competitors. In this study, Wayfair, Ashley, and Amazon were assessed based on features like filtering, VR vision, and live chat, revealing gaps in advanced functionalities such as VR integration and comparison tables. These insights guide businesses in improving their offerings to enhance user experience and stay competitive.

User flow outlines the step-by-step journey a user takes to complete a task within a product, ensuring a seamless and intuitive experience. It typically includes key stages such as onboarding, browsing, selecting a product, adding it to the cart, and completing the purchase. A well-structured user flow enhances usability by minimizing friction, guiding users efficiently, and improving overall satisfaction.

User

The user seeks a seamless shopping experience where they feel comfortable, satisfied, and confident in their purchase decisions. They rely on customer reviews, ratings, and product categories to visualize and compare options before buying. Their main concerns include affordability, convenience, and having enough options to make an informed choice while minimizing regret.

Storyboard

A storyboard visually maps a user’s journey, highlighting key steps, emotions, and challenges to improve design decisions and user experience. This storyboard gives a specific situation, showing the convenience and flexibility the app will support
the user at any time.

Wireframes Sketches

Wireframe sketches are (low-fidelity) visual representations of a product’s layout, structure, and functionality, helping to define user flow and interface elements. They serve as a blueprint for designers and developers to align on key features before moving to high-fidelity designs.

Northern Xscape Rentals, a jet ski and snowmobile rental company with three branches in Ontario, is seeking a modern app to replace its outdated website. The new app will allow users to sign up, log in, view rental details, receive safety tips, book vehicles, and manage their rental history. After booking, users will see a confirmation page and receive an email with reservation details, contact info, and a map of the selected branch.

Problem

Currently, the company’s outdated website is the only way for customers to rent equipment, but it often malfunctions, leading to frustration and potential loss of customers. The booking system frequently experiences errors and becomes overwhelming to use. Additionally, the website lacks a user login feature, meaning customers cannot access their booking history and must repeatedly enter their information for each reservation.

Solution

Developing a modern mobile app will enhance customer experience and streamline the rental process. The app will allow users to choose between jet skis and snowmobiles, check prices, and search for available time slots. It will also provide details on all three branch locations, including addresses, working hours, and available equipment. Users will be required to sign up and log in, enabling them to save personal details, track their booking and payment history, and access past rentals. Before confirming a reservation, users must review and agree to rental details and safety guidelines. Once booked, they will receive a confirmation email with reservation details, branch contact information, a map, and the cancellation policy.

Through a structured UX/UI design process, I first identified the core problem by analyzing user pain points and challenges. I then developed a solution that addressed these issues, ensuring a seamless and user-friendly experience. By conducting competitive analysis, creating user personas, and mapping out user flows and storyboards, I gained a deeper understanding of user needs and behaviors. This foundation allowed me to design wireframe sketches, followed by low-fidelity wireframes to establish layout and functionality. Finally, I refined the design through high-fidelity wireframes, ensuring a visually appealing and intuitive interface. This comprehensive approach enabled me to execute the UX/UI process from inception to completion effectively.
